Jigra Movie Review: Alia Bhatt’s Action-Packed Fight to Save Her Brother
Cast: Alia Bhatt, Rahul Ravindran, Vedang Raina, Akanksha Ranjan Kapoor, Manoj Pahwa, Yuvraj Vijayan, Jasan Shah, Dheer Hira, Aditya Nanda, among others.
Director: Vasan Bala
Music: Achint Thakkar
Cinematography: Swapnil S. Sonawane
Editing: Prerna Saigal
Producers: Karan Johar, Alia Bhatt, Shaheen Bhatt, Apoorva Mehta
Release Date: October 11, 2024
Bollywood beauty Alia Bhatt, after gaining recognition in Telugu cinema with 'RRR' and participating in Hindi 'Devara' promotions, has captured the hearts of Telugu audiences. Now, she takes the lead in the latest action thriller 'Jigra', directed by Vasan Bala. Telugu actor Rahul Ravindran plays a significant role. Released on October 11, this film has made its way to theaters nationwide under the banner of Asian Suresh Entertainment, released by hero Rana Daggubati. Let’s find out how the film fares and if it has won over the Telugu audience.
Plot:
Satyabhama (Alia Bhatt) works as hotel management staff in a wealthy household. Having lost her parents at a young age, she raises her younger brother Ankur Anand (Vedang Raina) herself. Ankur, who has a solid business idea, travels to Hanshi Dao near Malaysia to meet with investors. At a party, he gets caught by the police for using drugs and, under the local laws, is sentenced to death. This pushes Satyabhama to exhaust all possible means to save her brother, but to no avail. Ultimately, she decides that breaking him out of jail is the only option left. Does Satyabhama succeed in her efforts? What roles do Muthu (Rahul Ravindran) and Bhatia (Manoj Pahwa) play in helping her? You'll have to watch the movie to find out.
Performances:
Alia Bhatt delivers a stunning performance as Satyabhama. Her acting in emotional scenes is captivating, and she is incredibly convincing as the sister fighting to save her brother, excelling even in action sequences. Vedang Raina, as her brother, also puts forth a commendable performance. Telugu actor Rahul Ravindran, as Muthu, has landed a pivotal role that significantly impacts the story. Other actors too have justified their roles within the scope of their characters.
Direction:
Director Vasan Bala has crafted this film in the jailbreak genre. Right from the beginning, he successfully establishes the strong bond between the siblings. The audience can truly feel the strong relationship between them. However, the plot tends to drag until Ankur's arrest, after which the pace of the story picks up. The struggles Ankur faces in jail and Satyabhama's efforts to free him are engaging. With her decisive action to break him out, the story takes a thrilling turn, which the director has skillfully depicted. The climax action episode stands out as a highlight of the film. However, the predictable storyline and lack of innovative twists can be seen as drawbacks.
Technically:
Technically, the cinematography is impressive, effectively presenting the prison environment, especially in the climax, which offers some visually stunning shots. The music is satisfactory, with the background score fitting well with the film's tone. Tighter editing could have benefitted the movie. The production values are high.
Plus Points:
- Alia Bhatt’s performance
- Sibling sentiment
- Action sequences
- Cinematography
Minus Points:
- Prolonged scenes
- Predictable narrative

Swag Movie Review: Sree Vishnu Shines Amidst a Confusing Narrative
Cast: Sree Vishnu, Ritu Sharma, Daksha Nagarkar, Meera Jasmine, Sunil, Getup Srinu, Ravi Babu, Gopiraju Raman, Sharanya Pradeep, and others
Written and Directed by: Hasith Goli
Music by: Vivek Sagar
Cinematography: Vedaraman Shankaran
Editing by: Viplav
Producer: T.G. Viswaprasad
Release Date: October 4, 2024
After the super hit 'Raja Raja Chora', Sree Vishnu stars in the latest film 'Swag', directed by Hasith Goli. Featuring Ritu Varma, Meera Jasmine, and Daksha Nagarkar as the female leads, the already released trailers, teasers, and promotional images have heightened expectations. Released to audiences on October 4, did this film manage to impress? Did the Sree Vishnu-Hasith Goli combo deliver another hit? Let’s find out in this review.
Plot
The story of 'Swag' revolves around a lineage during the 1550s, a time marked by struggles for dominance between men and women. Bhavabhuti Maharaj (Sree Vishnu) devises a plan to confine his queen (Ritu Varma) and succeeds, subsequently bringing all the women in the kingdom under his control. As time progresses, Bhavabhuti's lineage continues with only daughters until twin boys are born. Bhavabhuti decides to gift one of his sons to his friend (Sunil), who has no sons. The lineage becomes dispersed over time. Cut to the present, the fortune belonging to the Swaganika lineage is securely kept, waiting to be passed to the rightful heir. Several claimants arrive, declaring themselves the descendants. Who are they really? Does the fortune find its rightful owner? To know more, one must watch the movie.
Performances
Young actor Sree Vishnu dazzles with his performance, portraying five roles including Bhavabhuti Maharaj, Yabhuti, Bhavabhuti, Vibhuti, and Singa. He connects emotionally with the audience as Yabhuti and entertains as Bhavabhuti. Ritu Varma impresses with her performance. Meera Jasmine, making her re-entry into Telugu cinema after 11 years, adequately delivers her role. Daksha Nagarkar marks her presence with her glamour, though her role lacks depth. Despite the presence of seasoned actors like Ravi Babu and Sunil, their roles do not stand out as the film primarily revolves around Sree Vishnu. The rest of the cast performed adequately.
Direction
Director Hasith Goli chose an interesting point for the film but the execution appears quite chaotic. The first half of the film leaves the audience puzzled for about 40 minutes until the comedy provides some relief. The director interestingly showcases Bhavabhuti's flashback and leads into the story well. The interval block may seem a bit messy but is passable. The first half overall can be described as average. Coming to the second half, the way Yabhuti's flashback is designed impresses the audience. Some double-meaning dialogues manage to evoke laughter. However, the climax again ends in confusion. The director concludes the film with a line indicating that gender discrimination is a blight on society, but the film feels abruptly ended, leaving a sense of incompleteness. The screenplay is quite confusing and demands full attention to grasp the storyline.
Technically
On the technical front, Vivek Sagar’s music and background score are highlights, adding value to the film. The cinematography is also commendable. Editing is decent, and the production values are high, offering a rich output despite a modest budget.
Plus Points
- Story
- Sree Vishnu’s acting
- Comedy
Minus Points
- Confusing screenplay
- Slow narration

Shivaram (Prince) is a professor at a university who never refuses to help anyone. This quality endears him to Veda (Neha Krishnan), who falls in love with him and confronts her family to marry him. However, Shivaram's goodwill is exploited by his own family members, who conspire to take his property. Betrayed by his brother and uncle, Shivaram becomes deeply disillusioned and attempts suicide, wishing not to be reborn as a human. At this critical moment, Kali Purusha (Naresh Agastya) makes his entry. Just as Shivaram is about to commit suicide, Kali Purusha rings the calling bell and saves him. What changes does Kali bring into Shivaram’s life? What is the connection between Shivaram’s life and the era of Kali? To find out, one must go to the theaters.
How Did They Perform?
In a refreshing new role as Shivaram, Prince excels with settled acting. Even in scenes without dialogue, his expressions were enough to impress. He made an effort to define himself as an actor by intensifying the scenes. Naresh Agastya shone as Kali, captivating with his stylish performance. The film primarily revolves around these two characters. Neha Krishnan was compelling as Veda within the limits of her role. Other cast members also justified their roles.
How's the Direction?
Director Shiva Shesha made an attempt to convey that suicide is not a solution to problems and that it is the real problem through this film. Although he chose a message-oriented narrative, he did not neglect commercial elements. He made the story engaging by blending suspense and thriller elements effectively. The movie starts with Shivaram’s background, his family life, love track, and betrayal by family members. The director sped up the story with the arrival of Agastya as Kali. The way Agastya questions Shivaram and tries to show him his mistakes is appealing. The scenes that instill a will to live are spectacular, especially the interactions between Prince and Naresh Agastya. However, the story might feel dragged and centered too much around two characters, and the lack of comedy could be seen as a downside.
Technically
On the technical front, the music is a major strength. Jeevan Babu's background score notably elevates the scenes. The editing could have been sharper. The cinematography is good, and the visuals are rich. The production values are also high, befitting the film.
Plus Points
Story
Acting by Prince and Agastya
Music
Minus Points

Editing

Telangana Bathukamma Songs: Famous Bathukamma Song Lyrics
Bathukamma festival is an integral part of the rural culture of Telangana. It's a celebration enthusiastically observed by every woman. Bathukamma songs hold a special place in these festivities. Our mothers and grandmothers sing these songs beautifully while playing the Bathukamma game. However, the younger generation does not have a strong grasp of these songs. They participate with the elders, but they cannot catch the tune or pronounce the words correctly. Many are curious to learn these songs, but it might not be feasible. Here are some popular Bathukamma songs from the villages of Telangana for you.
